The Government offers Australian citizens an Age Pension. You are entitled to receive this benefit once you are over Retirement Age providing you are eligiable. There is also additional government income supplements which may essentially help to top-up your age pension. Furthermore, it is possible to qualify for certain government benefits, such as rent assistance and disability income support. For details of the benefits offered by the government see Government Support in Retirement. Your Age Pension also offers access to a range of concessions for those that are eligible. If you are a foreigner there are different rules which apply if you are not an Australian citizen and looking to claim a foreign pension whilst in Australia (see International Social Security Agreements) or if you suffer from a disability (see Payments for Disability).
